MDFRSH – Reclaimed Wood Letters

MDFRSH™ is a collection of handmade wooden letters based on well-known typefaces, created by Miller™ partner, Reuben Miller.

MDFRSH letters are all made with reclaimed wood scraps from construction sites and woodworking waste. Unlike some other wood letters, these are made using hand tools, so each wood letter is unique and one-of-a-kind, with imperfections and all. Most letters are hand-sanded and coated in either wax, oil or a mixture thereof.

MDFRSH letters are inspired by the beautiful forms of typography. If you’re type enthusiasts like us, you’ll appreciate the way wood brings to life the subtle smoothness of Helvetica, the sensual curves and terminals of Caslon, and hopefully more to join the ranks of favorite typefaces in our collection.

About the Wood:
Here is some background info on the reclaimed wood we use.
Furniture Grade Plywood: This wood features contrasting thin layers of wood with a pink-tinted bonding agent in between. The cut letters reveal the complexity of these layers in unexpected ways. We show off what you usually don’t get to see in furniture.

Construction-Grade Pine:
This wood is what is commonly used in construction framing and comes in varying widths. We usually use 2×4 size. When cut, glued, shaped and then polished, the amazing colors and textures of this often overlooked commonplace wood come to light.

Pressure-Treated Plywood:
This wood is treated with chemicals to withstand the rigors of outdoor use. This wood features unusual stripe patterns. (Although, waxed to a smooth finish, we don’t recommend keeping products using this wood around children or pets. For display only.)

Various Hardwoods and Softwoods:
Whatever we can find at woodworking shops can find its way into our letters. We’re always trying something new and every type of wood is a candidate for the next project.

Note: The letters are currently part of our private collection and are not for sale at this time.
